Pregnancy and childbirth are frightening endeavors for many women.  They certainly were for me.  I was very careful and particular about what I ate and drank while pregnant.  I wanted to give birth to the happiest and healthiest baby possible, along with a trouble-free and uncomplicated delivery.  I actually wanted to deliver by Cesarean after all, it was 1995 and I had no intention of "grinning and bearing" the physical pains of childbirth.
I remember my doctor asking me when my last menstrual period was, and then calculating my due date.  He told me he was going to be out of town around that time in June,  for his son's college graduation.  "No problem!" I replied, since I wanted my baby to be born on May 19,  1995 at 9:15 in the morning.
(5-19-1995 - 9:15)
My pregnancy was ordinary and without complications.  I had a trusting relationship with my doctor and faithfully followed his every instruction.  I read many books on childbirth and babies, and one I particularly enjoyed, ' The World of the Baby: A celebration of Infancy through the Ages', by Georgina O'Hara.  My interest was peaked by a section of the book about gemstones women used hundreds of years ago to encourage or prevent the baby from emerging from the womb.  I was very much fascinated by this information and felt it was something that I could use during my own pregnancy and upcoming birth.
Then, around June 1, 1995,  my doctor told me I was one centimeter dilated and could have the baby "any day".  When reminded me he was going out of town, I panicked.  There was simply no way anyone else, i.e., a "stranger", was going to deliver my baby.  It was then that I began my search for the "magic stones".
A stone referred to as lodestone many, many years ago, now called magnetite, was believed to keep the baby in the womb, helping to prevent premature births.  I kept the lodestone/magnetite on or near me for 2 weeks.  On the night of June 12th, I put the stone in a drawer across my room.  I was awakened with my first contraction at 4:00 AM.  I took the pouch with all my magical birthing stones with me to the hospital and held them for the duration of my labor and delivery.  I arrived at the hospital at 6:00 AM was given an epidural at 7:00AM and my son was born at 9:30AM June 13th 1995.  He was perfect and healthy with incredibly beautiful, crystal clear eyes.  My labor was easy and a wonderful experience.
I kept the pouch of magic stones with my baby during his first year of life.  I hung this pouch from his basinet and later his crib just as the women before me had done hundreds of years ago for protection.  As my son developed, the stones remained high on a shelf in his room.  I keep them today and intend to give them to his wife  for her pregnancy and child birthing.
These stones are for women who believe and welcome the possibility of magic.  They do not replace medicine, doctors or prenatal health care.  There are intended to be a comfort and addition to medical care.  There are a legacy you may pass on to your child, or a gift you may give a friend, a sister, your wife and to yourself. An heirloom for future generations.
Believe and Blessings
